In still life paintings of food, the condition of the fruit is often symbolic: ripe, over-ripe, half-eaten… So, what does it mean when we’re not quite sure what the fruit is, but someone has clearly been helping themselves? In this screen-printed tile design, the combination of quarter circles overlaid by small squares hints at exotic fruit with delicious, juicy centres or perhaps oversize seeds, all laid out in abundance.
