1. Is there a minimum order?

Smink Studio’s minimum order is set by glaze colour: 3m² (33 sq ft, 150 tiles) for each glaze colour. All screen-printed tiles share the same glaze, either white or cream, and the geometric forms are screen-printed onto this glaze. A screen-printed tile order has a minimum of 3m2 but can include several screen-printed colours and several shapes. For Relief tiles, each glaze colour needs at least 3m² and can include several shapes, as required.

2. How much should I budget for a handmade tile installation?

The final cost of a Smink Studio installation depends on its size, design, the trim tiles required and where it is going. Transport from the studio in Portugal and any import costs vary by country, so a client in one country will pay a different final price from a client in another. Contact Smink Studio with your location and dimensions, and the team will tell you what to expect.

3. How much does delivery cost?

Delivery costs depend on the destination and the size of the order. Larger orders cost less to deliver per square metre or square foot than smaller orders: delivering 40m² / 430 sq ft can cost a quarter to a third as much per square metre or square foot as delivering 4m² / 43 sq ft. Once a design is final, Smink Studio requests quotes from several carriers and passes on the cheapest.

4. How and when do I pay?

Smink Studio asks for full payment to confirm an order. As a small company, this keeps paperwork and administration to a minimum. If preferred, clients can pay a 50% deposit on ordering and the remaining 50% before dispatch. All invoices, including transport, must be paid before the tiles leave the studio in Portugal. Payment can be made via bank transfer or credit card.

5. Can I change or cancel my order after paying?

Smink Studio agrees the final layout design and a draft invoice with each client before the final invoice is sent and the order confirmed. Once the order has been paid, it cannot be cancelled or refunded because handmade production can start at any time. Small changes may be possible if production has not yet begun, so contact Smink Studio straight away.

6. Do the sample tiles cost anything?

The sample tiles themselves are free. Private clients pay a charge to cover delivery, which is not deducted from a later order. Trade clients, such as interior designers, architects and contractors, receive one free sample pack per project. A sample pack normally contains two tiles and a set of colour chips.

7. If I need more tiles later, will they match the first order?

Tiles ordered in a separate batch will match the initial order as closely as possible but there is a chance that there are small differences. Each firing produces slight variations, so tiles made at a different moment may not match the first order perfectly. That is why Smink Studio recommends ordering 10% extra tiles with the original order, to cover breakages in transit or during installation and to keep spares for future repairs. If more tiles are needed later, the studio will match them as closely as it can.

8. Can I order tiles without a layout design?

The layout design is complimentary and it shows how the installation will look. It also lets Smink Studio calculate exactly how many tiles of each design you need. Most clients find it the most useful part of the process but if a client does not want it, tiles can be ordered without the design.
